BS Medical Technology or MedTech is a four-year degree program that provides students with the necessary skills and training in conducting laboratory tests. These tests are used in detecting, diagnosing, preventing, and treating various diseases. Medical Technologists perform lab investigations based on specimens taken from the human body such as urine, blood, stool and other body fluids through the use of medical equipment (e.g., analysers, microscopes and other precision instruments.
To be a professional, you must pass first the Medical Technologist Licensure Examination supervised by the Professional Regulation Commission. The board is scheduled twice a year (September and March).
The composition of questions comes from six major subjects with their corresponding relative weight. Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology and Parasitology, Hematology, Blood Banking and Serology, at 20% each, while Clinical Microscopy (Urinalysis and other body fluids) and Histopathologic Technique with 10% each subject.
To pass the MedTech Licensure Examination, you need to achieve a general weighted average of 75% with no rating below 60% in all the subjects.
